BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF AGENDA ITEM AND REQUESTED BOARD ACTION:
Discussion/approval/disapproval to self-fund the Pinal County employee Short-Term Disability (STD) program. A review of the County’s claims experience and program costs shows the move from a fully-insured plan to a self-funded plan would conservatively save the Pinal County Healthcare Trust approximately $200,000 per year. The proposed change will not impact eligibility, benefit and coverage limits, or access. The change from a fully insured plan to a self-funded Short-Term Disability plan was reviewed and approved by the Pinal County Health Benefits Trust Board on December 6, 2022. If approved, the effective date of the change will be determined by the County Human Resources Department in collaboration with the Office of Budget and Finance and the STD Plan administrator.
